Florida’s Leading Second-Crop Sire Chapel Royal got his third stakes winner of the year when Coronation Day captured the $68,450 Virgo Libra S. on July 16th at Belmont Park.
A 3-year-old gelding from Chapel Royal’s record-breaking first crop, Coronation Day was a half-length the best in the one-mile turf stake, crossing the wire in 1:33.87 over firm going. Trained by George Weaver, he moved his career earnings to $97,790 for owner R and H Stable. Susan Vitro bred Coronation Day in New York from the Rahy mare From Time to Time.
Chapel Royal holds a substantial advantage on the Florida Second-Crop Sires List with more than $1.7 million in progeny earnings to date in 2009, and he is the only sire in his class with multiple stakes winners this year. His top performer is Advice, winner of the Lexington S. (G2) at Keeneland and a favorite in Saturday’s Swaps S. (G2) at Hollywood Park.
